Eastside(ish), Westside + Places In Between June Events

by Jessica on May 29, 2013

SM-FestivalAnother month, another round of great events around L.A. benefiting schools and communities. Stop by and show your support! Especially since there are some great schools involved. So without further adieu, here are the details.

Between Matt B. doing Wednesday his night bar stint and Vartan Abgaryan in the kitchen, Silver Lake folks are excited to say Cliff’s Edge on Sunset is a finally terrific local and a destination-worthy restaurant. If you’re already a fan, haven’t been yet, want to support Micheltorena Street School, or some combination of the above, go to the Cliff’s Edge Community Mixer on Saturday, June 1, from 2 to 4 p.m.! Tickets are $35 per person and will benefit Micheltorena’s computer lab. (Beer and wine $5/glass.) Tickets are available online.

I would totally be going to Cliff’s Edge if I weren’t one of the judges at the 22nd annual Santa Monica Festival on Saturday. I’m looking forward to joining the always charming and fun Eddie Lin, AKA Deep End Dad around here, who’ll MC the culinary stage. I’ll be part of the panel judging the challenge between Chef Josie Le Balch of Josie Restaurant and Chef Nyesha Arrington of Wilshire Restaurant (last year’s victor). They’ll each be cooking a vegetarian “$15 Meal for Four” from 2:15-3:15. The very stylish schedule of events is posted here. Free! Bike valet! Everything else you’d hope from Santa Monica and more! Last time I was at Clover Park was probably for P.E. in high school, so this should be fun.

Heads up to all your Hollywood Farmers’ Market regulars, or those who have strayed to other Sunday markets (ahem) and need a reason to go back to Ivar. On Sunday, June 9th, the 1st annual “Bakers will Bake” sale is on from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pick out goodies from the amazing Roxana Jullapat of Cooks County, Cake Monkey’s Elizabeth Belkind, Christine Moore from Little Flower Candy Co., and other talented temptresses and tempters. Proceeds benefit Larchmont Charter’s Edible Schoolyard program. (More info at the L.A. Times Daily Dish blog.)

Last but not least — Taste of the Nation returns on June 9, and this time back at Culver City Media Park!

Happy summer!
