A Rare, Exciting and Dangerous Combo: Cocktails and Crayons at The Tar Pit

by Jessica on August 18, 2011

It’s unclear whether or not the Tar Pit on La Brea is intentionally referencing a past controversy, but for a few hours this weekend, this schmancy cocktail lounge and restaurant will decidedly put to rest the argument about whether or not kids belong in an upscale, grown-up dining environment.

On Sunday, August 21st from 4 to 8 p.m., the Cocktails and Crayons event takes over Mark Peel’s retro Deco venue to help raise funds for Berkeley-based Edible Schoolyard. (It’s actually not the first time they’ve hosted this kind of all-ages gathering.) Anyone care for a Pisco Sour alongside that periwinkle? I’d be concerned about getting stains on the deluxe upholstery and other surfaces in the beautifully appointed Tracy Beckmann-designed room. But glad some folks are more relaxed about that, or maybe the Tar Pit stockpiles stain removers that are up to any task.

If the green screen activity is anything like what was at Art in the Streets, that’s guaranteed to be a hit for everyone.  But the theme alone is enough enticement for many of us. Just be extra careful, or pick a designated driver, obvs.
