In addition to those I already covered in Squid Ink, here’s a last minute suggestion if you’re scrambling for a structured kid activity that involves food. At Sur La Table earlier this week I noticed a flyer for their kitchen education summer programs, which includes cooking and baking camps. Each course held in August consists of two-hour long sessions over five days designed for either teens (Culinary World Tour program) or kids ages 8 to 12 (Global Favorites). Baking camps are the week of August 8 – 12 only. All classes cost $350 per student, which includes a cookbook, apron, Wusthof 6″ knife (for cooking camps) and electric decorating pen (baking). More information is available at the Sur La Table website. And yup, these all have a Iron Chef component, too. Guess there’s nothing wrong with encouraging a little healthy competition.
