Taster Tots Giveaway! Enter to Win a Child’s Haircut at the Yellow Balloon Salon in Studio City

by Jessica on March 29, 2011

We waited a ridiculously long time to get our son’s first haircut. He was well into his third year when I finally realized it wasn’t about him and his love of his wild crazy mane, but rather it was about US and our image wrapped up in him and blah blah. Hair brushing turned into total freak-out sessions, and he needed a friggin’ haircut.

There wasn’t any doubt in our minds where we’d go. The Yellow Balloon in Studio City is owned by Sabrina, a family friend who cuts with lightening speed, plus an eye for what’s practical and looks good. It’s an L.A. institution. The newly coiffed leave with a lollipop, a couple rounds of video games, and very likely some other treats.

But because I don’t make it to the Valley as often as I should, here’s where I need your help, and where I can help you. So please, leave a comment sharing your favorite family restaurant in the San Fernando Valley for a chance to win a FREE CHILD’S HAIRCUT at the Yellow Balloon ($25 value). Plus you can enter multiple times by showing Facebook love for Taster Tots, liking the Yellow Balloon Studio City, and following TTLA on Twitter by Tuesday, April 5 at noon. (Just be sure to shoot me an email or mention in the comments that you’ve done any or all of the above.) I’ll draw TWO WINNERS and I’ll try to visit your suggestions in the coming months. Mention Taster Tots L.A. at the Yellow Balloon and get 10% haircare products, too.

Thanks and good luck!

It’s a toss-up between Pitfire Pizza in NoHo – great outdoor fire pit and ping-pong table – and Henry’s Hat in Universal City, which offers your kid’s choice of boardgames for the table (and half-off all food every Tuesday!).

The Tallyrand in Burbank is a great diner! Used to go there when my daughter was a toddler and they would even bring her out a cup of cheerios while we waited for our food. Talk about kid-friendly!

Love Studio Cafe in Studio City…great lunch and breakfast and really fun Chili menu that changes a lot…same owners as Jinkys in Sherman Oaks. Aroma on Tujunga…fave. Also like Sparks Woodfire Grill on Ventura for lunch or dinner.

Ciaoti Cafe is nice for eveyone (both kids and adults) – great salads, pizza, casual environment. Gelato Cafe is right next door for some awesome gelato after dinner!! Thanks, Maureen (jnomaxx at hotmail dot com). PS. We too went to Yellow Balloon when my boys were younger – they are really nice there and definitely makes for a nicer experience for the kids.

We have two favorites: Ramen Jinya in Studio City and Skaf’s in North Hollywood. Jinya’s patio seating is ideal for loud toddlers, the ramen is great, and really, what kid doesn’t like noodles? :) Skaf’s serves delicious Lebanese food–we love the grilled kebabs and the kid loves the pita and hummus (and they do make the best hummus). Sam, the owner of Skaf’s, adores my family and couldn’t be friendlier.

Nat’s on Hazeltine and Burbank in Sherman Oaks-ish. Breakfast is great and the staff is very accommodating. I wished I had heard my Good Food podcast earlier.
